Oculoplastic, Orbital and Reconstructive Surgeon
Prof. Dr. Altuğ Çetinkaya completed a fellowship in Oculoplastic, Orbital, and Reconstructive Surgery in the United States, focusing on correcting cosmetic and structural disorders of the eyelids and surrounding ocular tissues.

Dr. Çetinkaya’s most frequently performed surgeries include eyelid ptosis correction, eyelid and brow aesthetics, under-eye bag removal, tear duct obstruction treatment, eyelid cyst and tumor excision, orbital (eye socket) tumor surgery, orbital fracture repair, orbital decompression surgery (to correct thyroid-related eye protrusion),mobile prosthetic eye implantation, and socket reconstruction surgeries for patients unable to wear prosthetic eyes.
Dr. Çetinkaya was born in Trabzon in 1975. After graduating at the top of his class from Trabzon Anatolian High School (middle school section) and Ankara Science High School, he successfully completed his medical degree at Hacettepe University’s English Medicine Program in 1998, which was his sole choice in the university entrance exams. He then completed his ophthalmology residency at Başkent University in Ankara.
Following this, he passed the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) and obtained his ECFMG certification, allowing him to practice medicine in the U.S. After interviews, he was accepted into a clinical fellowship at the University of Cincinnati and the Cincinnati Eye Institute, where he trained in Oculoplastic, Orbital, and Reconstructive Surgery under Dr. Dwight Kulwin and Dr. Robert Kersten from 2006 to 2008. After completing his two-year fellowship, he worked as an Oculoplastic Surgeon at the same institution from 2008 to 2009. He later passed the USMLE Step 3 exam and fulfilled the necessary requirements to obtain a medical license, allowing him to practice independently in the state of Ohio.
In 2009, Dr. Çetinkaya completed an additional six-month fellowship in Neuro-Ophthalmology at the University of Cincinnati under the supervision of Dr. Karl Golnik. He then returned to Turkey and established the Oculoplastic Surgery Unit within the Department of Ophthalmology at Başkent University, continuing his academic career. In 2011, he became an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology, and in 2021, he earned the title of Professor of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Çetinkaya founded the Ata Beauty & Wellness Center in 2012. Simultaneously, between 2012 and 2019, he worked as an Oculoplastic Surgeon at Dünyagöz Ankara Hospital, where he also served as the Director of the Oculoplastic Surgery Unit for the hospital group. Since November 2019, he has been treating patients at his private clinic located in the Maidan Business Center. In addition, he continues his academic career as the Head of the Ophthalmology Department at Yüksek İhtisas University.
Dr. Çetinkaya has published 50 articles in national and international peer-reviewed journals. He has delivered over 250 invited lectures, course trainings, and scientific presentations, primarily abroad. His publications have received more than 750 international citations. Additionally, he has authored three international and three national book chapters and translated three book chapters into Turkish. Dr. Çetinkaya also serves as a scientific reviewer for numerous international and national medical journals.
He has received multiple professional awards, including those for outstanding contributions to education, best medical video presentation, best medical photography presentation, best free paper, best poster presentation, and best article. During his residency, he successfully passed the International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO) exams in basic sciences, optics, and clinical sciences. He also passed the European Board of Ophthalmology (EBO) exam during his specialization, earning the FEBO (Fellow of the European Board of Ophthalmology) title.
Dr. Çetinkaya is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS), the European Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ESOPRS), and the Turkish Ophthalmological Association (TOD), among others.
He was one of the founding members of the Young Ophthalmologists Group within the Turkish Ophthalmological Association (TOD) and served as its president from 2014 to 2015. From 2018 to 2020, he was elected as a board member of the TOD Oculoplastic Surgery Division. He currently serves as the Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology at Yüksek İhtisas University.
Dr. Çetinkaya is married and the father of two children.
