What is Eyelid Drooping?

Eyelid drooping, also known as ptosis, refers to the condition where the eyelid drops enough to cover a portion or the entire eye. When the condition is caused by the sagging of the skin and/or underlying tissues of the eyelid or the eyebrow, it is called false eyelid drooping or pseudo-ptosis.

Ptosis or pseudo-ptosis can limit or completely block vision. Ptosis can be observed in both children and adults. The condition of eyelid drooping can be treated to improve vision and provide aesthetic correction.

How is eyelid drooping treated?

Is there a non-surgical treatment for eyelid drooping?

Non-surgical treatment for eyelid drooping can only be applicable in cases where the drooping is caused by the sagging of the tissues on the eyelid. In this case, the ideal treatment is surgery, but non-surgical methods can be applied for patients who do not want surgery or do not necessarily require it.

How is non-surgical eyelid drooping treatment performed?

It can be performed using botulinum toxin, filler applications, thread applications, or device-based treatments. The main device-based treatments include radiofrequency and plasma technologies.

What are the advantages/disadvantages of non-surgical eyelid drooping treatment?

The biggest advantage is the absence of cuts, stitches, and bruising. The disadvantages are that it is effective only for a small number of suitable patients and for short periods, and it cannot be applied for true eyelid drooping.
